Over the last 12 months, a weekend here, a weekend there, Captain Fighting Machine has brought some small amount of joy and an overwhelmed heart to audiences in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, including a set as silent as death at Dark Mofo.
This November, for the first time, overnight bags will be replaced by luggage as they embark on a trip down the East Coast with eight shows taking in the capital cities and surrounds.
Captain Fighting Machine is the new project led by Conor Macdonald, and on this tour, he is joined by fellow Gin Club alumni Angus Agars, Adrian Stoyles and Ben Salter.
The four piece will be launching the debut Captain Fighting Machine record, a collection of songs that explore the tension between bleakness and hope, while confronting grief and the enormity of life.
The ten songs that comprise the record were recorded live in a makeshift studio at the tail end of a cold Tasmanian winter, with warmth breathed in back home over the course of a Brisbane summer. They ruminate on the extremes of the Queensland environment, regional life, sleepless nights and an unrelenting belief in the need to find a way through.
Treading the path laid by Jason Molina and Mark Linkous, David Berman and Will Oldham, Captain Fighting Machine capture the spirit of life, drawing the listener in and clinging tight, cause we all need to have each other’s back.
